DescriptionSome Noctuid moths, such as this species from Sumatra and Borneo, have brightly-colored patterns on their hindwings. When at rest these colors are hidden by the camouflaged forewings, but when disturbed these wings can be flashed open to momentarily startle a predator, affording the moth valuable time to escape.
