DescriptionPreviously regarded as a subspecies of the widespread Red-bellied Pitta (Erythropitta erythrogaster), the Papuan Pitta has been split off along with 15 others to full species status. Like most other pittas it is a shy inhabitant of the shady rainforest understory, feeding on insects and worms in the leaf litter.
